Consumers do not have to register products to get the warranties. However, some firms might offer buyers certain benefits such as extended warranties for registering a product.
When consumers buy products, they usually get a form that they can complete and mail back to the manufacturer. While some manufacturers make it appear as if the form is required to validate product warranty, a sales receipt is often sufficient for filing a warranty claim. Customers can choose to fill out the forms and send them back to the manufacturers to get additional benefits or learn about recalls. Manufacturers have to explicitly mention those incentives.
