Data entry jobs generally require a high school diploma but not a college degree. A course in keyboarding or typing and knowledge of office applications such as word processors, spreadsheets and databases are required for some data entry jobs.
Desirable skills are attention to detail, typing speed and the ability to do repetitive tasks for long periods of time. Other skills desired by employers are good organizational skills, ability to prioritize, experience using a computer, and focus on production and quality. Some employers prefer previous experience in a certain industry. LabCorp lists previous experience in a lab or medical setting as a job requirement in a September 2015 posting for a Data Entry Operator.
