Some things to consider before buying hatching eggs are the time of the year at which the eggs were laid, as well as the breed of chicken from which the eggs came. It is also important to note that shipped hatching eggs do not always arrive in a viable condition.
Most breeders tend to prefer hatching eggs that were laid between February and May because this is when chickens are strongest. Sending eggs through the mail or via a shipping company can greatly decrease their viability. However, in some areas, it is possible to purchase eggs from a local breeder and pick them up in person, reducing the likelihood of damaging the egg.
