The national corporate headquarters for telecommunications company AT&T is located in Whitacre Tower in downtown Dallas, Texas. The full mailing address is 208 S. Akard St., Dallas, TX 75202.
AT&T was previously headquartered in San Antonio, but in 2008 the company announced it would move to Dallas in order to improve access to customers and key business partners. At the time, technology companies that also had major offices in Dallas included Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Nokia, Nortel, Research In Motion and Samsung. The main telephone number for the corporate offices still uses a San Antonio area code, and San Antonio remains an employment center for the company.
The building at 208 S. Akard St. was completed as a hotel in 1984. AT&T renamed the building Whitacre Tower after moving in in 2008. The tower has 37 floors, is 580 feet tall and occupies an entire city block. Past and present alternative names for Whitacre Tower include One SBC Plaza, One Bell Plaza, Southwestern Bell Administration Tower and One AT&T Plaza.
In 2009, AT&T moved the statue known as Golden Boy into the lobby of Whitacre Tower. The statue stood atop the company's New York City office building for more than 60 years and is a well-known symbol of the company.
