An MLS number is a number that is assigned to a specific property listed for sale. In many cases, an MLS number is assigned when a property is listed by a real estate agent. For sale by owner properties generally do not receive an MLS number.
Consumers can use this number to pull up information about a property on real estate search websites. One example of this would be if a real estate agent placed an MLS number in a short advertisement. Prospective buyers can go to a real estate search engine and enter this number to find out information that is not listed in the advertisement as well as to view photos.
