What Is a Minister of Music?

A minister of music is the member of a church staff responsible for planning and leading the music in church services by both the congregation and the choir. The minister of music often has ministerial duties that include leading prayer and tending to the spiritual needs of church members.

Depending on the size of the church, a minister of music may be a part-time or full-time position. A minister of music is more than merely a music leader. His job is to share God's message through song and to be a witness of that message through his life and work. These ministers generally have a degree in music and at least some seminary study.
