Max Factor & Company went into business in 1909 and was named after its founder, Max Factor. The company initially manufactured a small range of make-up products and distributed theatrical make-up for other companies. It eventually expanded into making its own greasepaint for motion pictures, which became highly popular.
The company focused entirely on the film industry until 1927, when it expanded to national sales and more general cosmetics. Some of the company's innovations include the first pancake makeup, lip gloss, smear-proof lip gloss, clear colorless mascara and waterproof makeup.
The company shifted from being an independent entity to a product line for Procter & Gamble in 1991. Procter & Gamble began phasing out the product line in the United States in 2009, but it is still sold in 70 other countries, as of 2015. The product line has not changed significantly over time. Some of its primary products include Wild Mega Volume volumizing mascara and Max Effect nail polish.Learn more about Corporations
