Dr. David Perlmutter has been a practicing neurologist for about 30 years, as of 2015. He graduated from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 1981. Neurologists typically complete four-year residency programs in neurology after medical school and before starting practices.
Dr. Perlmutter practices neurology in Naples, Florida. He is also the author of the 2013 bestselling book "Grain Brain," in which he asserts that unhealthy carbohydrates and even whole grains can cause chronic headaches, anxiety, attention deficit disorder and dementia. Another of Perlmutter's books, "Brain Maker," discusses how the microbiome, which are microbes inside the gut, affect the brain and other bodily conditions, such as diabetes.
