The Youth Protection Training Course provided by the Boy Scouts of America takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete, according to LonghornCouncil.org. It is required for all BSA volunteers and must be retaken every two years. Successful completion of the course and test result in the issuance of a YPT card.
It is not required to be a registered member to take the course; however, volunteers who are not current with their biennial requirement at the time of charter renewal are subject to denial of extended registration. The Youth Protection Training Course is a state-approved course conducted at a learning center or via the online training module. The test for the instructor-led course must be proctored by a trainer. According to Scouting.org, the online version is the preferred method and issues an immediate certificate of completion.
