As of 2012, there are approximately 7,154 hospitals in Europe, according to MedicalDevice-Network.com. The online library for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reported that same year that there were approximately 183.8 hospital beds per every 1000 members of the population.
The number of available hospital beds in European countries dropped by 2 percent every year from 2000 to 2010, with the exception of Greece and Turkey. This number is important because it is indicative of the amount of resources that are available to hospitals and medical centers for treatment of inpatient patients.
