As of December 31, 2013, the Coca-Cola company stated that it had 130,600 employees working directly for the company. If Coca-Cola's bottling partners worldwide are also counted, then the total number of people working for the company is 700,000.
The large number of people employed by Coca-Cola, including bottling plant partners, makes the company one of the top ten private employers worldwide. Coca-Cola was invented by Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton in 1886. Shortly after the introduction of Coca-Cola, the beverage was served to an average of nine people a day. As of 2013, over 1.9 billion people drink the beverage daily.
