As of 2015, many doctors in the United States and Canada offer online scheduling to their patients. Most of them use software of their own choosing, rather than a centralized system, though some do offer online scheduling through the health systems in which they work.
ZocDoc, which was developed in 2007, locates doctors in certain states who offer online scheduling for users, as well as allowing users to schedule doctor appointments. It is hoping to add more states to the list of services in the future.
Scheduling doctor appointments online can reduce overhead by reducing office workload and decreasing the number of no-shows by providing a convenient way to schedule and reschedule appointments.
