There are several companies who made Ranger rifles. Savage, Smith and Wesson, Marlin, and Winchester are all known to have made the gun. If there are no serial number markings, the gun is likely made by Savage as that company did not include those markings during manufacturing.
While they were made by a variety of manufacturers, the Ranger rifle was mostly manufactured for Sears. According to Winchester Repeating Arms, the Ranger rifle was considered a hunting rifle. The Winchester 30-30 Win. Caliber Model 94, for example, was marketed as a whitetail hunting rifle and boasted a perfect balance and excellent shooting accuracy. Ranger rifles are now considered historic products and are no longer in production.
