All public companies, domestic and foreign, are required to file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This information includes the locations of their headquarters and is stored in the EDGAR database, and it is free to access and download. The SEC does not require private companies to file information, and therefore, external databases are ideal to look for information about private companies. In most cases, the external databases have more detailed information and are available at a price.

PrivCo is another good source to find information about private companies and is also available through a subscription.
