TQM, or total quality management, is a business philosophy rather than a specific standard for which there is a register. The international standard that reflects a TQM system is ISO.9001. In the United States, ISO 9001 is administered by the American National Standards Institute.
Every company that has passed the quality audit and is registered for ISO 9001 may display the ISO 9001 certificate. This certificate must show the name of the authorized examining body and the certificate number. The certificate may be checked for validity by contacting the examining body. A certificate is valid for two years. Every two years a quality audit is carried out, and the ISO 9001 company must pass to be able to continue with its registration.
