The Senior List divides the discounts into categories that include grocery stores, prescriptions, restaurants, retailers and travel, including airline, hotel and car rental discounts. The website further breaks down each category to list the particular company that offers the discount, the discount amount, age at which the discount applies, specified organizational membership requirements, and any special instructions.
The About.com list is less extensive and lists companies and their senior discounts in alphabetical order. The website specifies the company name, the discount amount, the age at which the discount applies, and any required organizational memberships.
Some companies offer a senior discount on a certain day of the week, and most offer a certain percentage discount on the senior's purchase, but some restaurants, especially fast food establishments, offer free drinks or other items. To obtain some discounts, seniors must be AARP members or sign up for a company loyalty or discount card. Most loyalty cards are free, but AARP charges an annual membership fee, and some prescription discount programs require payment of a one-time enrollment fee or an annual fee.Learn more about Coupons & Sales
