At Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers, Lion volunteers sort eyeglasses by prescription strength and prepare the glasses for reuse and then either ship requested quantities of glasses to humanitarian distribution teams around the world or use the donated glasses to maintain inventories at Lions permanent clinics. Lions Clubs also provides eyeglasses for missionary work, and guidelines for requesting eyeglasses for missions are available at LionsClubs.org. Mailing addresses, locations of Lions Clubs eyeglass collection boxes and the locations of Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers are also available from the site.
The Eyeglass Recycling program is one prong of Lions Clubs International's Sight Programs. Other programs include Sight for Kids, which provides eye screenings and eyeglasses to children worldwide, training eye care professionals and building eye care facilities, providing cataract surgeries and distributing medications and vaccines for illnesses that cause blindness.
