Merchandise sold at Gabe's, the rebranded name for Gabriel Brothers, includes clothing, footwear, accessories, bath products and housewares. Every Gabe's location receives new products twice per week, so the selection varies based on the store and its latest shipment.
Gabe's is a discount fashion retailer, with clothing items available for men, women and children. The stores offer standard sizes, plus sizes, junior plus, and big and tall items. Footwear products include shoes for men, women and children. Shoes are also offered in extended sizes. The stores often carry designer products and popular brand names.
Gabriel Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1961 by James and Arthur Gabriel, with the first store opening in Morgantown, West Virginia. The brothers got the idea from their father, Z.G. Gabriel, who would drive through Pennsylvania coal towns and sell clothing out of a truck.
The company's second store opened a year later in 1962. In 1985, Gabriel Brothers opened a distribution center in Morgantown, and 1991 saw the company hire its 1,000th employee. Gabriel Brothers opened another store, Rugged Wearhouse, in 1996. By 2004, Gabriel Brothers and Rugged Wearhouse combined for 100 stores. The company rebranded to Gabe's in 2013, at which time it also opened its largest store in Erie, Pennsylvania.
