An environmentalist helps the general public learn how to make the best decisions regarding the use of natural resources. Environmentalists also study the best ways to protect the environment from harmful pollution and other contaminates.
To become an environmentalist, an individual is typically required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. This can include programs in biology, chemistry, physics or any life science. Some environmentalists may decide to teach college-aged students about the environment. To teach college level, most environmentalists must complete a doctoral degree in environmental science, though many individuals may be qualified to teach at the college level with simply a master’s degree.
