The Mekeni Food Corporation (MFC) of Pampanga in the Philippines was one of the first meat processing plants in Asia to implement International Organization of Standardization, or ISO, certification, and Maynilad Water is another company that sought out ISO certification. There are many other ISO-certified companies in the Philippines across different fields.
ISO certification is most often used as a credibility tool by businesses to show that their products or services meet customer standards. Although not all countries participate in ISO Certification, many company presidents in the Philippines believe that doing so helps their social and environmental initiatives. MFC's president Felix M. Garcia believes that the certification helped with his export opportunities as well.
