Most private insurance plans cover at least part of dialysis. Medicare pays for 80 percent of dialysis, as of 2015. There are also options such as Medigap insurance and Medicaid.
Dialysis can be very expensive, but there are insurance options to help pay for it. If renal failure has rendered you disabled, or if you are over 65, you are eligible for Medicare, which pays for most of the cost of your dialysis. If you have private insurance, it could help to apply for Medicare as well, because the two plans can be used in combination to cover the full costs of dialysis. If you have Medicare, but no private insurance, you can purchase Medigap insurance to cover the remaining 20 percent of costs. If you are unable to afford Medigap, you can apply for Medicaid.
