Using MyChart, a patient can request prescription renewals and send nonurgent messages to his health care provider and receive a response, advises Dreyer Medical Clinic. A MyChart user also has access to eVisits, which involve interacting with a virtual doctor to receive treatment for some common medical symptoms. The virtual doctor can send an electronic prescription to the patient's pharmacy. As of July 2015, the cost for an eVisit is $30. The service is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Although the virtual doctor normally responds within an hour, it can take up to four hours to receive a response.

A patient can sign up for MyChart during a medical appointment or call his provider, states Dreyer Medical Clinic. He can also sign up online. A patient who signs up online must complete and submit a form to request an activation code. Within about a week, the patient receives an email or letter with an activation code and instructions for activating his account.
