As of 2015, Green Dot MoneyPak cards are no longer available for purchase, according to the New York Times. The company replaced the original scratch-off cards with prepaid cards that are reloadable at the register. Green Dot implemented the change to deter fraudulent use and quicken the reloading process.
A customer can simplify the Green Dot reloading process by advising a cashier that he wants to reload a prepaid card, submitting the desired reload amount in cash and then swiping the prepaid card, explains Green Dot. He should retain receipts, as the last four digits of the reloaded prepaid card appear on the receipt as validation of the transaction. Additional fees may apply to reload transactions in some cases.
