The U.S. Department of Agriculture issues grants through the Rural Housing Repair Loans and Grants program to allow very low-income individuals in rural areas the opportunity to repair, modernize, improve or remove health and safety hazards in their residences, explains Benefits.gov. As of 2015, the maximum grant value is $7,500.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture also administers the Farm Labor Housing Loans and Grants program, according to Benefits.gov. This program provides financing to buy, build, improve or repair housing for farm laborers. These funds can cover up to 90 percent of the development costs and are typically dispersed to Indian tribes, farmers, associations of farmers, nonprofit organizations, public agencies and associations of farm workers.
