The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers may different grants and loan guarantees to residents and businesses located in rural areas, including grants for emergency water assistance and for microentrepreneurs. There are also a number of programs and services, such as the Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program.
USDA grants are available for production of advanced biofuels, broadband deployment, community facilities, health care services and energy assistance, among many other possibilities. Qualified applicants and organizations can also get loan guarantees for businesses, electricity infrastructure, expansion of 911 services, housing repair and telecommunications infrastructure. The Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program helps both individuals and families who are in a low or moderate income bracket to obtain a low-interest home loan in rural areas. The program provides lenders a federally backed 90% loan guarantee. Residents must occupy the home as their primary residence and demonstrate that they have the income to meet the loan requirements. Applicants can begin the loan process by contacting an approved lender. The USDA maintains a list of approved lenders at its website.
The USDA also offers Tribal College Initiative Grants and the Intermediary Relending Program.
