Two good paper shredders as of 2015 include the Fellowes Powershred DS1 and the HSM MultiShred One-4-All, says Good Housekeeping. The Fellowes is fast, shredding a page in less than three seconds. The HSM has power and compact size, shredding materials into bits less than 1/4 of an inch.
Other shredders with relatively high ratings from Good Housekeeping are the HSM Shredstar BS10Cs, at four out of five stars, and the Royal 112MX and Fellowes Powershred 73Ci, at three and a half stars each. The HSM Shredstar is a powerhouse, working continuously without overheating, although emptying the bin may prove a bit messy. The Royal 112MX excels in larger jobs and with thick paper, compact discs and credit cards. The Fellowes Powershred is good for people who tend to put in too much material because it alerts users if it is overburdened. It is also good to have in spaces where kids or pets roam because a sensor detects when something touches the feeder slot, but emptying the basket can be somewhat messy.
Other shredders earning three and a half stars include the Staples SPL-TXC12M7A, Office Max OMO2750, Swingline EX10-05, Fellowes 69CB and Black & Decker BD10P. The Black & Decker shredder shreds 800 sheets of paper in one sitting.
