York County, Lancaster County and Wyoming County in Pennsylvania are good areas for gold prospecting. The streams in Wellsville, Dillsburg and Rossville in York County are known to produce small amounts of placer gold. Some streams in the towns of Winterstown and Shrewsbury are also possible sources.
Platinum nuggets have been discovered at Peter's Creek and the Susquehanna River near Quarryville in Lancaster County. Several of the creeks that drain into the Susquehanna River have produced gold. Wyoming County in northeastern Pennsylvania is noteworthy for gold discoveries.
Gold in the northern areas of Pennsylvania originated from deposits in Canada. This sort of glacier-borne deposit scatters the gold, and it is often widespread.
