General Motors, one of the "Big Three" auto manufacturers responsible for the American automotive industry, has its corporate headquarters located in the GM Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. GM owns this collection of seven skyscrapers in downtown Detroit and has offices in three of its towers.
General Motors picked up the lease on the Renaissance Center in 1996, taking over from the prior leaseholders, the Ford Motor Company. Prior to moving to the Renaissance Center, GM's corporate headquarters were located in the General Motors Building on Grand Boulevard. Now known as Cadillac Place, the building is an official historic landmark.
