Full Answer

Geisinger has four different HMO plans available: Solutions, Direct, Extra and Point of Service. As of March 2015, these plans are available in most of the counties of Eastern Pennsylvania, but not in Philadelphia or its surrounding areas.

The Solutions plan resembles the structure of a standard HMO plan, but with lower premiums due to cost-sharing for some services. The Direct plan does not require a referral to see a chosen provider. The POS plan retains access to the Geisinger network while also allowing patients to go outside of the network at a small additional expense. The Extra plan offers extra service at a lower cost through the company's ProvenHealth Navigator offices. All plans give access to the Geisinger network of about 20,000 health care providers.

Geisinger also offers PPO plan options under the Geisinger Choice name. Some of these plans do not require referrals to see specialists and have high deductibles. The company also offers a series of Medicare plans under the Geisinger Gold name. These plans are handled through subsidiaries of Geisinger.
