Fred Meyer, Inc. was founded in Portland, Oregon, by Fred G. Meyer in 1922. The store began by incorporating a grocery store and a pharmacy, and later expanded its product line to include clothing, toys, hardware, sporting goods and other department store items. In October 1998 Fred Meyer, Inc. merged with the Kroger Corporation. In 2012, Kroger appointed Lynn Gust as president of its Fred Meyer Stores division. Lynn Gust began working at Fred Meyer in 1970 as a parcel clerk.
