Among the Fortune 200 companies, as of 2015, are Wal-Mart at the top spot, Omnicom Group at No. 200, General Dynamics at No. 100 and Lowe's at No. 50, notes Fortune magazine. The Fortune 200 are companies that are ranked among the top 200 spots of the Fortune 500 list. The top five companies in the list for 2015 are Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Berkshire Hathaway and Apple.
In 1955, Fortune magazine started publishing an annual list of the top 500 corporations that are based in the United States. The corporations are primarily ranked based on their gross revenues in the previous fiscal year. Fortune magazine also has a the Fortune 100 list, which is made up of the top 100 corporations in the 500 list, as well as the Fortune 1000, which lists all the corporations that are ranked 501 to 1,000, notes Fortune.
For 2015, the Fortune 500 is the 61st list ranked and published by Fortune. The corporations in the list has a combined $12.5 trillion in revenues, $501 billion in profit, $17 trillion in market value and employs more than 26 million workers all around the world. Among the most notable corporations in the 2015 Fortune 500 list are General Motors at sixth, Ford Motor at ninth, Verizon at 15th, Amazon at 29th, Walgreens at 35th, Best Buy at 72nd, McDonalds at 110th, Kohl's at 157th and Starbucks at 187th.
