Walmart, Exxon, Chevron, Berkshire Hathaway and Apple are among the top Fortune 1000 companies in 2014. The list's highlights include Walmart maintaining the No. 1 position with net sales of $473.1 billion, while UnitedHealth Group climbed up the list to position 14. Apple made its way into the top five.
Other companies that made the list include General Motors, Ford Motors, CVS Caremark, Verizon Communications and Hewlett-Packard, which all earned positions in the top 20. Fortune compiles the list by ranking total revenues for the fiscal year. For consideration, companies must be incorporated and operate in the United States, as well as file financial statements with a government agency.
