What Is a Form DD 256?

A Form DD 256 is a certificate of honorable discharge utilized by the U.S. Department of Defense and the different branches of military service. An honorable discharge occurs when a service person successfully completes a term of duty with one of the military branches.
A Form DD 260 is a certificate of dishonorable discharge. This type of discharge occurs when a service person violates the law, the code of military conduct or engages in some type of particularly egregious action. Other related forms include the DD 257, a certificate of general discharge, and a DD 259, a certificate of discharge for bad conduct.
