Florida owners must reference Form DR-15DSS, which contains the sales tax chart related to the discretionary sales surtax, explains the Florida Department of Revenue. This surtax applies to a taxable item or service. As of September 2015, there are certain transactions that only require a sales surtax on the first $5,000 of a taxable sale or purchase. Certain governments and nonprofit organizations may not be subject to the sales tax and do not need to reference the Florida sales tax chart.
To pay the sales surtax, a Florida taxpayer can use the Florida Department of Revenue's secure Web application, according to the Florida Department of Revenue. If this approach is not convenient, a taxpayer can purchase software from a software vendor. Form DR-15DSS, which contains the Florida sales surtax chart, lists all of the Florida counties, the total surtax rate, the effective date and the expiration date.
