When filing a claim, in addition to the policyholder's name and policy number, you must provide names and contact information for injured parties, eyewitnesses, legal representation and your agent or broker. You must also supply the date, time and location of the loss, reports AceGroup. Provide a description of the events that led to the loss, including the nature of the damage and identification of all the vessels involved.

In addition to filing a claim, you must take all reasonable steps to secure and protect the covered property from further damage, according to AceGroup. If you file a claim for theft or vandalism, you must also immediately notify the police and file a police report. Finally, you must file a boating accident report with your state boating agency if the total damage for all vessels and equipment is more than $500, or if there is a complete loss of the vessel. Filing a boating accident report is also necessary if there is personal injury, loss of life or a disappearance of any person on board a vessel.
