Even if you don't feel like it, get 15 to 30 minutes of exercise every day to help fight depression. Exercise boosts endorphins, which make the brain feel good. It also may have long-term positive effects on depression.
Get proper nutrition, since what you eat can affect the way you feel. Be aware that depression can tempt some people to overeat and other people avoid food. Don't let yourself fall into either behavior. Foods that are rich in folic acid and omega-3 fatty acids may help fight depression.
Talk to a friend or professional about your depression. Be honest with yourself and others about the way you feel. Just releasing your feelings may help put your situation into perspective.
Be logical about your situation. Question any negative thoughts that come to mind and depress you, and force yourself to see if there is actual proof that they're accurate.
Keep a journal to write down how you feel, and keep a list of positive experiences that you can refer to regularly. Also, try taking up drawing, sewing, dancing or any other art form or craft that gives you pleasure, and spend time with other people in creative pursuits.
