Some features of BlueCross HMO plans include no deductibles, no claim forms and the ability to choose primary care physicians, according to BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. They are designed for mid-size companies with between 51 and 150 employees as well as large companies with 151 employees or more.
Primary physician coordinated care, which includes basic care; drug prescriptions; and access to medical history and information about health care management are among the plans' advantages, states BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. Members on maintenance drug prescription can get supplies for up to 90 days. BlueCross HMO plans have copayments, but they apply only to some services and necessary referrals.
Members can access office visits with doctors and seek preventive care, such as immunizations; tests for breast, cervical, colon and prostate cancer; and wellness services for children, explains BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. Members can also access outpatient surgery and diagnostic tests, outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment and maternity care. The plans also cover both inpatient and outpatient services for mental health and drug abuse, and they cover recovery care for speech, occupational and physical rehabilitative therapy.
Members can access discounted services such as emergency care and out-of-area coverage when traveling or living out of the country on a temporary basis, states BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. The plans offer discounts on vision exams, vision correction surgery, lenses, frames and contacts. Members can purchase hearing aids at a cheaper cost and receive discounts on wellness products and services such as acupuncture, massage and chiropractic care.
