Magnet status is a rare achievement with about six percent of facilities being awarded recognition by the ANCC, notes the University of California, Davis Medical Center. However, any facility that meets the requirements can go through the application process.

  1. Locate the online application
  2. Go to nursecredentialing.org. Hover the cursor over the "Magnet" tab at the top of the screen. Click on "Overview" in the drop-down menu. Look for and click on the "Apply Now" button.

  3. Apply online and through the mail
  4. Provide the required information in the online form. This includes the hospital contact information and general info. Print out the application receipt and mail it to: ANCC Magnet Recognition, P.O. Box 505063, St. Louis, MO 63150-5063.

  5. Email important documentation
  6. Send the necessary documentation to the ANCC email address, as directed by the website. This documentation includes the chief nursing officer's curriculum vitae or resume, current facility organizational chart with CNO and nursing's relationship to facility, a nursing organizational chart, a copy of the unit-based survey tool, nurse manager eligibility documentation and nurse leader eligibility documentation. Respond to any requests for further documentation to aid the ANCC in its review.
