One sample 12-hour work schedule is the 2-2, 3-2, 2-3 rotating schedule. Teams of workers alternate a set of day shifts with two days on, two days off; three on, two off; and two on, three off, then switch to a set of night shifts with the same pattern.
Another example is a schedule in which teams alternate four consecutive night shifts, then have three days off; three consecutive day shifts, then one day off; three night shifts, then three days off; and four day shifts, then seven days off. Both examples use four teams of workers who average 42 hours a week on the job. A schedule cycle that uses three teams of workers is seven consecutive day shifts, seven consecutive night shifts then seven days off.
