Miles are earned on annual net purchases made on the Capital One Rewards credit card, as explained on the Capital One website. This does exclude certain transactions, however, such as purchase checks, purchase credits and buying travelers' checks. Cash advances, access checks and cash equivalent transactions are also excluded.
The miles that are earned remain on the account until they are redeemed, or until the account is closed. However, the account has to remain in good standing in order for the miles to be redeemed. If it is not, the miles are held until it is brought back to good standing order.
