Find a doctor in Illinois who accepts BlueCross BlueShield by going to the Illinois provider finder page, clicking Start Search, selecting a plan network and then refining your search or clicking Show All Providers. Plan names are on the front of the BCBS member ID card, according to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
If you are uncertain about which network you belong to, call the customer service number on the back of your ID card. Alternatively, click Search All Networks and Plans. However, if you use this search, results are going to include out-of-network providers. Using out-of-network providers may cost more, states the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. There is a link on the BCBS page to find out about in-network options for both HMO and PPO plans.
Information in the provider finder is not guaranteed to be correct as it depends on details given to BCBS by the provider. If you choose a provider from the list, call and find out whether the doctor is in the BCBS network. Then, make sure his services are covered by your plan. Ask whether the provider is accepting new patients, explains the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. The provider finder also has links to search only for Medicare providers, dentists, vision providers and pharmacies.
