Direct deposit funds hit the account within one business day after they are received by the bank. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the bank is required to make direct deposit funds available by the first business day following the date the deposit is received by the bank.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau warns that weekends and holidays don’t count as business days, even if the bank is open for business on those days. In general, business days include Monday through Friday.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau suggests checking the bank’s direct deposit policies, as many banks have more efficient processes that allow immediate availability of electronically deposited funds.
