Desk research is the process of collecting readily available information in the public domain and then using it for study purposes. The data gained can be either external or internal, but either way it is referred to as secondary data.
Desk research is a commonly used technique for organizations that have very little budget to pursue a study or research. As the information is freely available to anyone, there are few costs involved for finding it. Although desk research can prove to be valuable, it is limited in its scope because it may not accurately apply for any given situation.
