Military retirees get Delta Dental benefits through TRICARE, which includes services such as cleanings, check-ups and dental treatments, according to TRICARE. Military retirees should apply through the Delta Dental Tricare website for eligibility information.
The retiree dental program by Delta Dental and TRICARE is completely voluntary, notes TRICARE. Retired military personnel, family members of retired service members, Medal of Honor recipients and family members of Medal of Honor recipients are eligible. It is available throughout the United States and in certain international locations. Some of the services available through the dental program include gum surgery, root canals, oral surgery, fillings and extractions. The plan also covers orthodontics, crowns, dentures, X-rays and basic exams. Some patients receive fluoride treatment and sealants with the program.
The TRICARE dental program uses Delta Dental as the contractor, according to TRICARE. Participants create accounts on the Delta Dental website and see Delta Dental dentists for checkups and treatments. This website provides registration and eligibility information, and participants can use the account management feature to add or delete family members, view benefits, trace claims and make payments. Enrollment can also occur through the mail, but online enrollment is faster.
To enroll in the program, the sponsor or retiree must pay the first two months of the premium with a credit card, notes Tricare. Thereafter, participants can pay monthly premiums through military pay allotments or via recurring credit card payments or bank account debits. The minimum amount of time for enrollment as of January 2016 is 12 consecutive months.
