Lampert was born on July 19, 1962 in Roslyn, New York, the son of a lawyer and housewife. After his father's early demise, Lampert put himself through university by working odd jobs and obtaining scholarships, eventually graduating with a bachelor's in economics summa cum laude from Yale University. After a four-year stint at Goldman Sachs, he formed hedge fund company ESL Investments. He is number 628 in Forbes' list of the world's richest people, worth an estimated $2.4 billion, as of August 2015. Lampert is married to Kinga Lampert, with whom he shares three children.
