What Credit Score Is Considered Excellent?

A FICO credit score between 740 and 850 is considered excellent. However, different credit rating models use different scales, which means that scores can mean different things according to different credit bureaus, states CNN Money.

Generally, the higher a score is to the top of the bureau's scale, the better it is. FICO scores are scaled from 300 to 850, so anywhere between 740 and 850 is in the "excellent credit" range, according to Credit.org, an information website operated by Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management. Equifax and TransRisk also top out at 850, which means that these bureaus have similar definitions of good credit. However, VantageScore places its ratings on a scale between 501 and 990, which means that scores must be closer to the 900-range to be considered "excellent."
