The Bankrate website offers a detailed calculator that requires a user to enter the current city of residence and then the comparison city. In addition, a user can enter the amount of his own current income. After refreshing the listing, information is available for various products, with prices in each respective city, as well as the price difference with other cities The data includes price differences for residency, interest payments, apartment rent, medical visits, clothes, food products and mortgage rates. Visitors can also view the calculated percentage change in wages that would allow a similar standard of living between locations.
The CNN Money website offers a similar tool but only displays general price differences for groceries, housing, utilities, transportation and health care. Users can also enter their respective salary to compare it between cities. Finally, the U.S. Department of State website contains a list of relevant resources for site users to further research cost of living in the United States.
