Complaints against businesses on the Better Business Bureau website can be found under the Customer Complaints Summary section. The complaint type, as well as the total number of complaints, is found there.
Complaints are categorized into groups, such as advertising or sales issues, billing or collection matters, delivery problems, guarantee or warranty issues and general problems with the product or service. The BBB lists the amount of closed complaints in the last three years, as well as during the last 12 months. The BBB does not handle cases that are already in the court system, nor does it handle workplace grievances, discrimination claims or claims regarding the health or legal service business. Businesses are asked to respond to complaints received within 14 days. A follow-up letter is sent if no response is received by the BBB. Most consumer complaints are resolved within 30 days.
