A commercial director is a senior position in a company or organization responsible for developing strategies to grow the business. Commercial directors report to the chief executive and are a part of the management team.
Commercial directors manage large teams of people as they work to establish new client relationships and business opportunities. They are responsible for managing the directorial budget, writing business proposals and approving contracts. Due to the scope and importance of the commercial director's responsibilities, candidates are generally not considered for the position unless they have five to 10 years of experience with successful commercial management. Many have postgraduate qualifications and are members of the American Marketing Institution.
