Most states have CNA renewal forms available at their nurse licensing authority's offices and at the state's Department of Health websites. The CNA must use the correct form issued from the state where the CNA earned the certificate. The CNA must file the form before the current license expires.
Many states allow licensees to complete the renewal process online, by mail or in person. States vary in the length of time it takes to process renewal applications, so users should always check with their licensing authorities. If a CNA license expires before it is renewed, it can result in a penalty, fine or mandatory recertification exam.
